As an artist, I enjoy the process of starting a painting from inspiring objects and ideas that peak my interest on a day-to-day basis, with the intention of sharing that inspiration with others. Before I begin a painting, I will oftentimes sit in a book store or library for hours looking for images or reading materials that give me an in-depth idea of what I would like to create on canvas. My body of work is intended to inspire and uplift those who view and appreciate the various pieces that are representative of my "exploration" of creativity.

Gail McFarland was born in Atlantic City in 1965 and raised in Trenton, NJ. She has been a resident of Maryland for approximately 21 years. At a young age, she was introduced to art via paint by numbers and making designs using yarn. She also attended summer painting classes at Trenton State College, now known as The College of New Jersey (TCNJ). Throughout her young adult life, her parents would have to check on her because she spent a lot of hours crafting in her room.
After graduating from Notre Dame High School in 1983, she continued her studies in Business and eventually earned her BS in Accounting from the University of Phoenix. After the purchase of her first home, she started purchasing items as decoration when a relative noticed and made a comment;
Why did you buy that when you could have created it yourself?
10 years in, and she has created masks, paintings, and a few small pieces for her walls. With compliments and a little nudging from family and friends, she will be exhibiting for the first time at a café in the DC Metro area.
In the meantime, she is a self-taught mixed media abstract artist and plans to continue exploring and honing her craft. Included in her crafting, she makes melt and pour soap and has been peaked with interest in wire wrapped jewelry.
To stay engaged in the art community, she visits at least one museum or gallery a month. She has entered an artist contest featured in the Beacon Newspaper for people over 50 in collaboration with the Maryland Federation of Art. She has taken calligraphy classes from CCBC, and has made an “Udo Drum” out of clay at The Walter’s Art Museum make night.
